French mystery clock “La Balancelle”,ca. 1860. This 48-inch brass grid-iron-style clock has double-sided enamel dials. It is designed to hang from the ceiling
such that both sides can be viewed. The clock itself serves as the pendulum, suspended from a brass ceiling mount by a suspension
spring at the top. A descending fixed rod provides a post for the escapement crutch loop to tie into, thereby completing the
pendulum set-up. The ceiling mount and rod are missing so this clock cannot function until a replacement is made. There
are four fancy hands, probably not original; one side had a sweep seconds hand, the “back side” did not. A broken sweep seconds
hand is included. The 10-inch diameter dials are without damage; the back dial is marked “Morel a Morbier”. Note the escapement
anchor loop above that dial. I did not open the movement, but it is spring-driven (of course) and probably runs 8 days, time-only. There are winding arbors on both sides. This clock sold in 2019 at R.O. Schmitt (Lot 102 of the May 18-19 auction) for $1600. If you do brass work this clock is for you; a picture of the clock and mounting bracket as sold at Schmitt’s is shown. $200–$500.

French pull-up silk-thread movement
and dial, ca. 1840? I do not know what this is about. The simple time-only movement is unmarked, as is the porcelain
dial. It appears to be designed to hang from a hook on a wall, with two spikes that extend from the base of the movement to
the wall to make it vertical. There is a fancy engraved brass weight and a smaller counter-weight; the simple pendulum is suspended
from a thread. There is a glass in the brass bezel, which opens to the right, and two proper hands. I could not get the
clock to run, but perhaps you can. If you know a story about this clock let me know. $10–$50.
606. $15
Atkins Clock Co. 30-hour steeple, ca.
1860. This 19.5-inch mahogany steeple has an old finish, two period glasses with a well-retained tablet, and two period finials. What it doesn’t have is a time-side winding arbor or spring, so it is here in Parts. The slightly contoured dial is clean with
old paint, good numbering, and two acceptable hands. The 30-hour time-and-strike brass movement is unsigned and untested. There is a suspension spring but no pendulum bob; there is a good label inside. If you’ve got a spring and arbor you can restore
this clock to functionality; if not, you can use it for parts. It’s worth noting that ACC steeple clocks are uncommon. $15–$50.

Eli Terry Porter Contract (attr.)
wooden tall case movement. From the Gus Lanzo collection, said to be made in Terry’s “Ireland” plant (actually, a former gristmill
on the Naugatuck River on the south side of Plymouth, CT, later known as Greystone). I don’t know if everything is there because
I am not Peter Nunes, but there does seem to be an “extra” wheel waiting to be installed.
