S. Marti et Cie double-dial black marble clock, ca. 1890. A beautiful 16.5-inch Belgian black slate clock with a lower barometer dial and a visible escapement.  The case has a few chips along the base, with one larger chip at the left footing, all of which are not noticeable.  There is incising on the front of the base that has lost most of its gilding.  Note the green onyx inlays.  The glasses, including the back glass are flat and beveled; the black marble dial has incised gold numbering and the name of the retailer (Mayer, Liverpool & Paris) under the visible escapement.  The escapement has steel pallets.  The barometer dial is clean but not accessible, with an adjustable indicator to follow changes in the air pressure.  I suspect it isn’t working.  The 8-day pendule de Paris movement was made by Marti et Cie and is running and striking on the hours and half-hours on a nickel bell.  This clock weighs 35 lb.  $250–$500.
