E. & G.W. Bartholomew transitional column & splat, 1829-1833.  Eli and his cousin George went into business in Bristol, CT making wooden works shelf clocks during the transition from pillar & scroll to column & splat clocks; although this clock is the standard height for a short-drop 30-hour movement (28 inches), it is only 14 inches wide.  The mahogany case is in good condition with an old, dark finish and some patina.  The bronzed columns are original and the bronzing remains strong, as it does on the splat.  The pineapple finials may be modern.  The small paw feet in front and turned feet in back look original.  The dial glass is modern, the lower glass older, with newer putty and likely a replacement, with a repainted tablet.  The wooden dial is faded with wear and some losses, the hands are correct.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking without difficulty, with two period weights.  There is an old pendulum bob and a dark and complete paper label.  A nice example.  AAC sold a similar example last January for $250, and a nicer example for $725.  $200–$400.
