E. & G.W. Bartholomew transitional column & splat, 1829-1833.  Eli and his cousin George went into business in Bristol, CT making wooden works shelf clocks during the transition from pillar & scroll to column & splat clocks; although this clock is the standard height for a short-drop 30-hour movement (29 inches), it is three inches narrower than the standard of 17 inches.  The mahogany case is in reasonable condition with an old finish; the bronze stenciling on the columns and splat is easily visible.  There are old carved pineapple finials and carved feet, and two old glasses; the dial glass putty is newer, while the lower glass putty is original and the tablet is as well, with considerable losses and touch-up, but it doesn’t look too bad.  The wooden dial is faded, the numbering uneven, the hands period and proper.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking on an iron bell, with two period weights.  There is a good label inside, a hook and latch on the right side, and modern aluminum pulley covers on top.  AAC sold a similar example in 2023 for $500.  $250-$500.
