Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 5 Emerald”, 1874.  If you think you might be an Ithaca collector you’ll want to look closely at this clock, as this is a hard-to-find model.  The 33-inch-tall walnut case has burl walnut panels, ebony trim, and an intricately carved crest.  The crest looks original with no chips or missing pieces, the finials are proper but may be replacements.  The finish has been overcoated at least once.  The nickel bezels are likely original, as are the dial pans, with old glasses and old paper dials; the hinge on the time bezel has been moved to the left side, probably because it broke off from the right side through use.  The time dial is badly spotted and probably an old replacement, the calendar dial is properly signed and labeled and could be original.  The hands are correct.  The 8-day time and half-hour strike movement was made by Welch for the ICCC; it is running and striking on a cathedral gong, regulated by a proper silver pendulum bob.  The calendar hand and weekday roller are advancing as expected; there is a penciled in year of manufacture (1874) and inventory number inside on the bottom.  AAC sold a lesser example in 2023 for $1700, and a very nice example in 2022 for $4101.  $1250–$1800.
