159.           $10

American Clock Co. “Wide Awake” iron-front, ca. 1867.  This model was offered by several retailers, with the 15-inch iron-front make at an unindicated foundry in New York; the retailer here, the American Clock Co., was also out of New York City.  The gilding on the front is dark and faded, and two pieces of mother of pearl (MOP) are missing below the dial (you can buy replacement MOP at craft stores and online).  The glasses are old, the paper dial badly yellowed, and the hands are acceptable but not original.  The 30-hour time-and-strike movement is unsigned; it is running and striking on an iron bell.  There is also an alarm hooked up, but untested.  A stained and yellowed label inside obscured by the bell.  $10–$50.
