Spencer, Hotchkiss & Co. Eight Day Repeating Brass Clock, 1829-1832.  Perhaps this group’s most common model, a 32-inch case with full columns on each side, a double-panel door over a rectangular base with a removeable panel, here with the original mirror.  The veneer is mahogany with a clean, old finish and just one missing piece at the back left of the base.  There is a key, ivory escutcheon, and a non-working latch. Both door glasses are original with the original putty and a good tablet with losses to the buildings.  The wooden dial is original with modest soiling, good gilding, and two period hands.  The 8-day time-and-strike Salem Bridge movement will not run or strike and probably needs cleaning.  There are two 8-lb iron weights and an embossed pendulum bob, and a good and typical label inside. AAC recently sold three similar examples for an average of $233.  $200–$300.
