Silas Hoadley “Franklin Clock” shelf clock, 1813–1830.  This model is almost always found with an alarm, but not here.  The case is 35 inches tall with good bronze stenciling on the columns, a plain mahogany splat, a clean finish.  The dial glass is original with the original putty, the mirror a modern replacement.  The dial glass is cracked on the lower left; note the inner bronzed stenciled border around the mirror.  The full-length door opens on the right.  The wooden dial is in good shape, clean, with lots of gilding.  The hands are not appropriate.  The wooden 30-hour time-and-strike movement runs briefly and will strike on the bell mounted above the movement.  The bushings are ivory, as advertised on the tattered and darkened label. This is known as an upside-down movement because the winding arbors are located above the center shaft, probably to avoid a patent issue with Eli Terry.  There are two old weights and a period pendulum bob.   Upside-down movement clocks without an alarm are uncommon; AAC sold nice example in 2023 for $175.  $100–$175.
