195. $400
Wm L Gilbert Clock Co. “Regulator No. 11”, ca. 1891. A
50-inch oak case with an old, dry, neglected finish. The trim pieces match the catalog illustration except for the top of the
door, which appears to have been repaired. The door glass is a replacement with ‘Regulator’ added in gold lettering. The
side glasses are original. The metal dial has been overcoated with a varnish that subsequently alligatored; it may be restorable. The hands are slight mismatches and not as shown in the catalog. The 8-day, time-only movement is not signed, but is correct
and is driven by two proper 2.5-lb brass weights that run down each side of the case from a single winding arbor. It is running,
with a proper wooden pendulum stick and a badly worn bob that needs to be replaced. No label, and the backboard has separated. A fairly common model, usually in walnut; AAC sold a slightly nicer oak example in 2024 for $500. $400–$600.
