235. $100
Miniature French tall-case clock, ca. 1880. This
34-inch-tall case holds a standard pendule de Paris 8-day, time-and-strike movement by Japy Freres et Cie. The case-maker’s
imprint may also be on the back of the movement. The mahogany case has extensive and detailed marquetry inlay around the top
of the case, trunk, and base. There is a door in front that allows you to reach in to restart the pendulum should it stop; the
movement can also be accessed from the back. The porcelain dial has numerous hairlines and slight chipping, with proper hands
(although the minute hand needs to be straightened). There is no glass in the front bezel and it does not close tightly. There is a small brass urn finial on top, and the scrolls may have been repaired. The clock is running and striking on a nickel
bell as expected. An interesting clock that I have not seen before. $100–$250.
