234. $100
French(?) small gallery clock, ca. 1900. There is
no label and I cannot access the movement to see if it is marked, but this clock looks French to me. The case is 15 inches in
diameter with ebonized rings, a brass bezel, old glass, and a 9.5-inch formed porcelain dial with cartouche numbering and French Breguet
hands. There are some hairline cracks to the dial and some wear to the outer minute markers. The 8-day, time and half-hour
strike movement is running and striking on a wire gong with a deep sound. The dial is on posts pinned to the movement, the movement
is mounted on the backboard. You cannot remove the dial from the front, so I assume you must remove the backboard (held to the
frame with small screws) to access the movement. I did not do so. Since it’s running it’s all good, for now. You
access the pendulum from a drop-down door at the bottom. $100–$250.
