174.          $500

Ansonia Clock Co. “Bagdad”, ca. 1904.  This is the later model and the one most commonly seen (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches, pages 182-183).  This example is unusual, however, because it is weight-driven; most examples are spring-driven.  The 50-inch case is black walnut with an old, clean finish and light wear; the door glass is original and the side lights may be as well.  The paper dial is very dark; the hands are likely original.  The nickel and brass movement is signed and runs 8 days, time-only, driven by the two brass weights that I believe are correct to this model; note the two brass pulleys on the movement to space the weights properly.  It is running.  The pendulum stick and bob are also original.  There is a label on the back that is for a Bagdad Strike, which this one is not; the two-weight model was time only.  AAC sold a weight-driven Bagdad in 2024 for $615.  $500–$700.
