169.         $1200

Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 1 Extra”, ca. 1863.  A second example, this one with the original rosewood veneer in pretty good shape; some losses and repairs are evident.  Both glasses are old and could be original, but the tablet has been repainted.  The gilt trim around the tablet is original.  The original dial was likely repainted long ago and still looks good, with light fading.  The hands are correct early period hands for this model, including the seconds bit.  The unsigned 8-day, time-and-strike movement is as shown in Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements Vol. 1 on page 272, and is correct for this model (ST used a variety of movements in these clocks).  The pendulum stick is original with gilding and the bob is the rare and highly desirable embossed Seth Thomas Plymouth Hollow brass bob.  There are two iron weights and it strikes on a wire gong on the hours; the clock is running nicely.  The weight shield is a replacement with a reproduced label; the lower portion with the beat scale is original.  $1200-$1800.
