78. $300 ea
Two “cigar box” clocks, ca. 1850. The
one on the left (A) is by the New England Clock Co. and is 11 inches tall with mahogany and rosewood veneer; the one on the right
(B) is by M.W. Atkins & Co. and is 11.5 inches tall, also with rosewood (or walnut) and mahogany veneer. Note that B has
at top piece and base, whereas A is a simple box. Both glasses are old but the decalcomania tablets have likely been rebacked. The dial on A has been repainted, the hands are period; the dial paint on B is likely original, as are the hands. Both dials
are slightly contoured. The NECC clock (A) contains an unsigned 30-hour, time-only movement typical of these clocks; the Atkins
clock (B) holds an unusual and unsigned round 30-hour, time-only movement. Both are running strongly. There are
readable labels in both clocks. Very collectable clocks that take up little space and look good anywhere, typically selling
for around $400. Indicate on your bid sheet which one you are bidding on (A or B). $300–$500.
