Ansonia Brass & Copper Co. “Gilt Column”,ca. 1874.  An 18-inch rosewood case with an old, patinated finish; the columns, which should be gilded, have been overpainted, and the trim around the lower glass has also been painted.  Both glasses are very old but perhaps not original; the tablet of a bird is well preserved.  The painted, contoured dial is stained and soiled, with painted spandrels; the paint is probably original, with proper period hands.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is bright and shiny with the Ansonia Clock Co. imprint, so this is either a later movement or the clock was completed after AB&CC turned over the clockmaking business to the newly formed Ansonia Clock Co. in 1877.  It is running and striking on a wire gong.  There is a very dark and partial AB&CC label inside. This clock is shown on page 443 of Ly’s book on Ansonia Clocks.  AB&CC clocks are not common.  $50–$100.
