Terhune & Edwards shelf clock, 1859-1872.  T&E were retailers on Courtland St. in New York City who bought clocks from Connecticut clockmakers.  This 18-inch shelf clock has mahogany veneer with a thick, dark, old finish; I do not recognize this model and the movement is not signed.  The dial glass is modern, the lower glass is cracked and likely original, but there is cardboard image of Barnum’s American Museum in New York City (1841-1865) to replace the lost eglomise tablet.  The round contoured dial holds old, likely original paint with noticeable soiling and paint cracking.  The hands are slight mismatches but appropriate.  The 8-day, unsigned time-and-strike brass movement is running and striking on the wire gong.  There is a good label inside.  $50–$100.
