E. & G.W.
Bartholomew transitional column & splat, 1829-1833. A third example. The mahogany case is in good condition with an
old finish; the half-columns have been over-painted in a dark brown and may have been grain-painted originally. The finials
are unusual and may not be original, and the paw feet and turned feet are modern replacements. The door opens on the right with
a hook latch; the dial glass is modern, the lower mirror old, but probably not original. The wooden dial has extensive gilded
gesso decorations but is soiled and will not clean up easily. The hands are period and proper. The 30-hour time-and-strike
wooden movement is not running but will strike on an iron bell, with two period weights. There is a dark, tattered label
inside. $125-$250.
