Mark Leavenworth & Son pillar & scroll, 1825-1829.  The Leavenworths worked out of Waterbury CT making exclusively wooden works clocks.  Their clocks are highly sought after.  This 30.5-inch clock has a polished finish and good veneer all around.  The scrolls, feet, and skirt all look original, with no repairs; there is a crack in the veneer in the door crossbar.  The brass urn finials are on wood posts but have screw-in fittings.  There are old but not original tin dust covers on the back.  The dial glass is an old replacement with old glass, the lower glass is also a replacement, held in place with wooden strips.  Most of the period tablet is lost.  The wooden dial is clean with painted spandrels, the hands are period and appropriate.  The wooden 30-hour time-and-strike movement is running like a champ, striking on the iron bell.  There are two period weights and an old pendulum bob, and a good label on the backwall.  As always with a Jeff Villet restoration, there is a winding crank and a key and working door lock.  $250–$400.
