Chauncey Ives pillar & scroll, 1824-1830. Chauncey Ives worked in Bristol, CT, and was later a part of C. & L.C. Ives; he had five brothers, one of whom was Joseph Ives.  The 31-inch case has good mahogany veneer; the scroll top shows no damage or repairs, and the brass urn finials have seams and are on wooden posts.  The feet and skirt also look original.  The dial glass is modern, the lower glass original with the original tablet, with modest touch-up.  The wooden dial has also been touched up professionally, the diamond hands are period but may be mis-sized.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wooden movement is running and striking on the iron bell, driven by two period weights.  The pendulum bob is modern, the label is good.  Working key and latch, winding crank included.  The tin dust covers on top are modern.  $250-$400.
