Seth Thomas off-center pillar & scroll, ca. 1820.  A second example of this uncommon model.  Officially termed a “Model 2C”, which was made until 1822 under an agreement with Eli Terry.  The 29.5-inch-tall case has good mahogany veneer with a clean finish; there are some repairs to the door crossbar.  The scroll-top looks original with repairs to the tips; the skirt looks original as well, but the feet may be replacements.  The ST brass urn finials are old and on steel posts.  Both glasses are old but not 1820’s old, and both have replaced putty.  The tablet has been repainted.  The wooden dial board is clean and colorful, with a basket of flowers below the mainstem as is commonly found on these early clocks, as well as minute markers at the quarter-hours. The hands are correct replacements.  The 30-hour wood-strap movement is running and striking on an iron bell without difficulty, driven by two lead weights on wooden pulleys top and bottom.  There is readable label inside.  $1200–$2500.
