274. $50
English(?) shelf clock, ca. 1890. As with #274, there is little
to go on in identifying the maker of this clock – the movement is unsigned and there is no label. The 15-inch tall and 14.5-inch-wide
case is veneered in a burled wood, possibly walnut, with a glossy finish. The dial glass is old, the bezel opens with a push-button
on the left. The iron dial holds old paint and hands, the overall appearance makes me think it is an English case. The
8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned and not recognizable (to me), but it looks like an American movement. It is running
and striking on a large iron bell; the pendulum is accessed from underneath. $50–$150.
