275.          $50

English(?) shelf clock, ca. 1890.  A third example of this English-style shelf clock with no label and an unsigned movement.  This time, though, there is a clue on the back of the case, where a previous owner has penciled in a note that says “Imported from England in 1977 with an unsigned ST-type movement.”  The case is just under 15 inches tall with a polished burl wood veneer.  The dial bezel opens with a push-button on the left and there is a flip-up panel at the bottom in front to access the pendulum.  The zinc dial has been repainted, the hands are appropriate.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is again unsigned; it is running and striking on a small steel bell.  No label.  $50–$100.

Phillip Thomas tells me this is an Anglo-American with a Jerome movement, exported to England.  The case was made by Holloway of London.  Thanks Phillip!
