273. $50
English(?) shelf clock, ca. 1890. There’s not much to go on with
this handsome clock, no label and the only marking on the movement is ‘ST’ which, based on a penciled note on the back of #276, indicates
that the movement was made by Seth Thomas. It is unusual, as the springs are in barrels. The 15-inch walnut case has been
refinished; there is a convex glass over the painted dial, which shows chipping and fading to the numerals, and the hands are old. There is a latch inside the side door on the left that you lift to open the bezel. The movement is likely an 8-day and counts
the hours on a wire gong on the door of the case. It is running. $50–$150.
