210.         $500

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Hanging Italian V.P.”, ca. 1880.  A highly sought-after Welch clock, here in the original finish, original door glass with stencil, and possibly the original paint on the dial.  A rare example.  The mahogany case is 27 inches long with a dark patina and the proper bottom finial, as well as the crest carvings. The hands are as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly, Welch Clocks, page 229), the sandwich-glass pendulum is as well, and the 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking the hours on a brass bell.  A readable label on the back.  Three sales on LiveAuctioneers in the last decade, most recently at Fontaine’s last October for $650.  $500–$700.
