206.         $1000

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Suez”, ca. 1883.  A 44-inch mahogany case with a beautiful finish.  I see no nicks, mars, or scratches; the door glass is period/original.  The railing and shelf base are as shown in the catalog illustration on page 328 of Ly’s Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1.  Indeed, the dial, hands, cathedral bell, pendulum stick and damascened nickel bob are all as shown.  The dial holds old, possibly original paint with the ST logo in excellent condition with the proper hands, although the minute hand has been repaired, the only flaw I can find in this clock.  The 8-day, time-and-strike spring-driven movement is signed and as shown in Ly’s description.  There is a beat scale at the bottom and a black Seth Thomas label.  The clock is running and striking without effort, but the “tick” is rather loud.  There are no sales on LiveAuctioneers; this is a very difficult clock to find.  $1000–$2000.
