Ansonia Brass & Copper Co. “Drop Extra Calendar”, ca. 1883. An ever-popular calendar wall clock, 26 inches long with clean rosewood veneer. The veneer on the base has been repaired, and
the bottom finial is an addition. The veneer on the bezel is in excellent condition, the two drop finials on the sides are appropriate
replacements. The dial glass is modern, the lower door glass is period with a typical tablet. The metal dial holds the
original paint and is stamped “TERRY’S PATENT manufactured by the ANSONIA BRASS & COPPER Co. Ansonia Conn.” AB&CC was
the precursor to the Ansonia Clock Co. (1869-1877), which continued to sell this model after 1877. The dial shows some staining
but is in good condition; the calendar dial that sits behind it and rotates each month shows fading and wear. The hands are
the right style but a bit small, the calendar hand is not correct – Ansonia had a unique calendar hand they used on this model. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement runs very briefly and stops, the strike is on a wire gong and is working. The calendar mechanism
appears to be intact. There is a good label inside. AAC sold this model a year ago for $412, a typical price for this
popular model. $200–$400.
