183.          $250

E. Ingraham & Co. “Ionic”, ca. 1886.  This is the 1886 model with a 10-inch diameter calendar dial.   The mahogany case is 29.5 inches long with a clean finish; both glasses look to be original, with original putty on the dial glass.  The dial is newer glossy paper, the calendar dial old/original and clean.  All five hands are as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly, Ingraham Clocks & Watches, page 112).  The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running strongly and the calendar hands are advancing.  There is a dark label inside and a B.B. Lewis label on the back of the calendar mechanism.  AAC has sold six of this model for an average of $300.  $250–$400.

A customer asked about the calendar on this clock, and whether it accommodated leap years.  The B.B. Lewis calendar is a "complex calendar", meaning it adjusts correctly for months with less than 31 days and advances correctly at the end of those months.  To my knowledge it does not take into account leap years.  I have tested this one (by hand, advancing the calendar on the back of the door) and it does operate correctly, even advancing multiple days at the end of February.
