178. $25
Ansonia Clock Co. “Africa” calendar, ca. 1883. This appears
to have started out as the Africa model (Ly, Ansonia Clocks & Watches, page 450) but has had significant modifications; you can
see the modifications to the crest, as their color differs from the rest of the case. It stands 22 inches tall in walnut with
an old finish. The door glass is period/original, the paper dial is yellowed and has the Ansonia logo. The hands are period
and proper. The 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong on an Ansonia base,
but the calendar hand is advancing with each hour and will need adjustment. There is a fancy Ansonia dial-indicator pendulum,
an Ansonia beat scale, but no label. $25–$100.
