Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 8 Shelf Library”, 1878-1902. This
is an early version of the Shelf Library: the Welch movement is mounted with seat hooks, the carved crest is mounted without case
extensions, and the gong is the early wire type (see Warren, Ithaca’s Clock Makers, page 112). The walnut case is
clean and polished, with burl walnut panels on the front; note the handle on the center door. The carved crest is a modern
replacement. The dial glasses are old, the paper dials are old, the hands correct. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is
running without issue, the calendars are advancing, but the roller papers are very dark. The brass tear drop pendulum link
is present and the pendulum bob is nickel plated (as it should be). A very nice example. The average price for
three sales on AAC is $548. $400-$600.
