164.           $400

Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “Shelf Steeple”, 1878-1890.  This clock is set off by its pierced dial board that also was used in some of the higher-end Ithaca calendar regulators.  It is 25.5 inches tall in walnut with an old finish and some patina.  The top finial may be a replacement and the base it should sit on is missing.  There is some damage to the veneer on the top right, but it is not especially noticeable.  The full front door holds the original glass with the original fretwork over the glossy paper dials on zinc pans.  The hands are correct on both dials. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed E.N. Welch, made for ICCC; the clock is running and striking with a delicate sound on the brass bell and there is a proper nickel pendulum bob.  The calendar rollers are in good condition, and the weekday roller and date hand are advancing.  The remote alarm was not tested and winds at the bottom left. A date on the backboard indicates that this clock was made in 1877, with matching inventory numbers on the backboard and case. The Steeple model is not common; AAC sold one in 2021 for $800 and Schmitt Horan sold one this fall for $500.  $400-$800.
