110.           $150

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Capitol No. 3”, ca. 1911.  A 23-inch oak case with a clean finish, incisings, and applied ornaments.  Seth Thomas offered this as one of six clocks in the “Capitol Series”, three of which featured the US Capitol, and three showed the White House on the painted glass doors.  They were made in “old oak” only.  The image on this example is well-preserved; note the opening at the bottom to view the pendulum.  These clocks are uncommon and were made when traditional parlor clocks were being replaced by cabinet clocks – black mantels, tambours, etc.  Tran Ly notes that the cases were the same as those used in the College Series clocks, but with painted tablets. The paper dial is discolored and is signed; the hands are Seth Thomas but are not as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 2, page 668).  The 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is signed and running, striking on a small cathedral gong.  There is an alarm hooked up, but not tested, and a proper ST pendulum bob.  There are remnants of a very dark Seth Thomas label inside on the bottom and a large label on the back.  As noted, these clocks are not common, with just two listings on LiveAuctioneers.  AAC sold a Capitol No. 2 in 2024 for $210.  $150–$250.
