Brewster & Ingrahams four post steeple, 1843-1852. A
second example of this desirable model, this one in poorer condition. The 19-inch case has figured mahogany veneer on the
front and standard mahogany veneer on the sides; four side columns and four finned finials, all of which look original with some slight
damage to some of the finial rings. The top post support on the left has broken off, been reglued, and broken off again. The finish on this case is terrible – old and dry, but the veneer is good. Both glasses are likely original, with a good frosted
tablet. The dial was repainted and antiqued by The Dial House. The hands are typical and probably original. The
signed 8-day time-and-strike movement lacks a pendulum rod so could not be tested, but it appears to be frozen. The partial
label is badly degraded, stained, and dark, and the makers’ names are largely lost. In better condition these clocks sell for
an average of $400. This one will take some effort to get it up to that level. $50–$150.
