Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Column”, ca. 1870.  This miniature empire clock is 16 inches tall with rosewood veneer under an old, dark finish; there chipping issues on the cornice and missing pieces on the sides of the base plate.  The gilding on the columns is original, with some wear, and there are gilded trim pieces around the glasses.  The dial glass looks original, the mirror looks like a more recent replacement.  The contoured metal dial has been abused, with chipping and staining.  The hands are appropriate ST hands.  The large 8-day, time-and-strike lyre movement is signed and labeled from Plymouth Conn; it is running and striking on a wire gong from the E Ingraham Company. There is a good but yellowed Thomaston label inside.   $50–$100.
