Silas Hoadley
miniature time & alarm, ca. 1830. A second, simpler example, 26 inches tall on ball feet, with bronze-stenciled
three-quarter columns on each side and a stenciled splat. The rear side quarter-columns (no part of the column is wasted!)
show stenciling on the bases, while the sides are painted and then stained/grain-painted. There are modern(?) carved pineapples
on top. The dial glass is period with newer putty, the lower glass is modern with fine tablet. The wooden dial is clean
with colorful spandrels; the hands are period with a repaired alarm hand. The miniature 30-hour wooden movement is running nicely
and the alarm is working. These clocks did not have a strike. There is a good label inside. AAC sold one
last summer for $250. $175-$300.
