15.                   $400

Isaac Packard shelf clock, ca. 1834.  A 29-inch mahogany case with a clean and polished finish; I see one minor repair to the veneer on the door crosspiece.  Both glasses are old but possibly replaced, as there is newer putty around the dial glass, and the lower glass with a Lee Davis painting is held in place with wooden strips.  The dial has gilded gesso rings and good color, with two period hands.  The 30-hour east-west (Torrington) wooden movement is running and striking an iron bell as expected, with two period weights.  A bright and complete label inside with the 1830 census; I note that Kentucky had a larger population (683,000) than Massachusetts (610,000).  That doesn’t seem right, does it?  AAC sold a near identical example in 2024 for $500. $400–$600.
