Birge
& Fuller candlestick double-steeple with wagon-spring movement, 1844–1848. A gorgeous example of this highly desirable
double steeple. The case is 26 inches tall, veneered in mahogany with a dark repair on the front at the peak, and
lower left of lower door. The candlesticks look original and have a few nicks. The dial glass is old, the two door
glasses are modern with well-done Fenn designs. The painted, contoured dial is reasonably clean with old paint and some chipping;
the hands are period/original. The 8-day, time-and-strike wagon-spring movement is die-stamped Birge & Fuller; it is
running and striking on the wire gong. There is a dark and tattered label inside. AAC has sold four of
these in the last four years for an average of $1900, and most recently for $1800. $1500–$2200.
