Antique American Clocks July 2021
36. $250
William S. Johnson ripple-front cottage, 1841-1861. Johnson was a retailer in New York
city and bought clocks from many makers. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement in this clock is not signed. The 16-inch
case is veneered in rosewood with ripple trim. The veneer is in perfect condition with a beautiful patina. The mirror
is probably original, the dial glass almost certainly original. The contoured metal dial is likely original with the original
paint; the hands are period-correct. It is running and striking on the wire gong; there is a readable label inside. Just
about perfect. $250-$400.
