Antique American Clocks July 2021
37. $125
JC Brown ripple-front cottage, 1842-1849. A 15-inch cottage clock veneered in mahogany
(or walnut?) with ripple trim on the front of the base. Both glasses are period/original, with a gilt design backed in black. Unfortunately, the dial is a modern replacement, as are the period-appropriate hands. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is
signed “J.C. Brown | Forestville USA” and is running and striking a wire gong as expected. There is a beat-up green label inside
that does not designate a company, indicating that this clock was made while Brown worked under his own name. $125-$250.
