Antique American Clocks July 2021
2. $1500
English 8-bell bracket clock, ca. 1890. Not as intricately carved as
#1 but still impressive, 29.5 inches tall and 15 inches wide in English walnut with the original finish. The silvered dial is
inscribed with a floral pattern and black lacquered numerals and chapter ring. It sits behind a thick beveled glass in the wooden
door; there is no key. Two smaller dials at the top turn off the chime, and as with #1 it plays Westminster Chimes on four bells
and that tune I don’t recognize on eight bells, as selected by the top right dial. The heavy brass plate, triple fusee bracket
movement is unsigned; it is running without problem and chiming and striking the hours on a large cathedral gong. The back door
is glass with a working key and latch. I suspect the center finial is a replacement. $1500-$2500.
