256.             $500

Monumental English table clock, ca. 1880.  A 26.5-inch tall by 17.5-inch wide mahogany case with four columns and brass ornamentation top to bottom, including the eagle-on-a-ball top center finial and four smaller urns on top of the columns.  The 8-inch painted metal dial is unsigned and sits behind a convex beveled glass in the brass sash.  The hands look original.  The 8-day, time-and-strike brass, spring-driven movement is unsigned; the springs are in brass barrels and it strikes on an overhead nickel bell.  It runs weakly and I think it needs service/cleaning. It does strike as expected.  This clock is impressive.  $500–$1000.
