S. Marti et Cie monumental black marble mantel clock, ca.
1890. A massive (68-lb) Belgian slate clock, 20 inches tall and 20 inches wide, with brass ornamentation on the front. The finish is dull but clean, there are repaired separations on the base. There are some small chips and the incisings on the
front have mostly lost their gilding. The polished black marble dial sits behind a flat beveled glass. The numerals are
incised into the dial, the gold hands proper, and the dial is marked with the retailer, R.T. Bailey, Sunderland & Paris. The 8-day, time and half-hour strike pendule de Paris movement was made by S Marti et cie; it is running but not striking. $100–$250.
