188.           $300

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Regulator No. 2” ca. 1874.  This appears to be an early No. 2, with an early rectangular brass movement and the weight running behind a shield.  It lacks the gilded trim around the lower glass and the door key locks characteristic of the No. 1 model.  The 31-inch case has a very dark, old, patinated, nearly crusty finish that might benefit from thorough cleaning.  I believe the base has been lost.  The dial glass is modern, the lower glass period/original with an unusual, Oriental theme.  I have not seen this before but it looks original to the glass.  The dial holds old paint with yellowing, strong numbering and the ST logo below the mainstem; the three hands are ST issue.  The 8-day, time-only, weight-driven movement is unsigned (typical); it is running without difficulty. The pendulum stick is a replacement, the bob period, and there is a good Thomaston label on the weight shield.  The weight is proper, the pulley a replacement.  $300–$500.
