Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Globe Calendar”, ca. 1896.  I have never seen a Globe calendar model before, and there are none to be found on LiveAuctioneers or the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide.  There is no listing for one in Ly’s book on Seth Thomas clocks either.  The dial was repainted by The Dial House, so we can’t fall back on an old dial to confirm originality.  The movement is ST and so marked, but the simple calendar gears  and tension arm look like add-ons, perhaps at the factory as a special order.  Whatever, it’s unique.  The 30.5-inch walnut case has a clean, dark finish with renewed gilding around the lower door, as was done on early wall clocks by ST.  The dial glass is modern, the lower glass is period.  As noted, the 12-inch dial was repainted, the hands are ST issue.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, although oily, striking on a wire gong, and the calendar hand is advancing. There is a proper pendulum and bob and a white label on the backwall.  The suspension spring is a replacement.  $150–$250.
