160. $400
Welch, Spring & Co. “Round Head No. 4”, ca. 1880. A
32-inch rosewood case with grain-painted rosewood on the bezels; the base is original. Both glasses appear to be original,
with the original putty around the dial glass. The time dial holds old paint with touch-up; the time hands are proper/original,
while the weekday indicator is probably a replacement. The lower paper dial is toned with the proper Welch hands. The
8-day, time-only movement is signed EN Welch and is running and striking on a wire gong and the calendar hands are advancing. A
good black and gold label inside as well as a BB Lewis Perpetual Calendar label on the back of the calendar door. A nice
example. AAC sold a similar example in 2024 for $478. $400–$500.
