Jerome & Co. “Plover Perpetual Calendar”, ca. 1895. This clock, along with other similar cabinet calendar clocks, was marketed under the Jerome & Co. name, although the New Haven
Clock Co. took over the Jerome Mfg. Co. in 1856. The 18-inch-tall oak case has an old finish and considerable wear on the front, including
a split on the right front. The top piece has a better finish and the carvings and calendar case appear to be walnut. The dial pan, bezel, and glass are modern replacements and the dial is paper; the hands are as shown in the catalog illustration (Ly,New Haven Clocks & Watches, page 65). The calendar glass and dial are period/original, the dial is paper. The 8-day
time and half-hour strike brass movement is stamped with the New Haven Clock Co. logo. It is running and striking on a cathedral
gong and the calendar is advancing. You access the pendulum from underneath the case. There is a dark label on the back. This clock sold at Fontaine’s in 2021 for $600; it is the only example of this model that I can find on LiveAuctioneers or the Antique
Clocks Identification and Price Guide. It may be the only one in existence. $500–$1000.
