Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar”, ca. 1863.  One of Seth Thomas’s earliest shelf calendar models, this one made prior to 1865 as indicated by the Plymouth Hollow label and stamp on the movement.  This clock is appealing for its fortress-like appearance, and the rosewood veneer here is complete – I see no chips or losses, and a clean finish.  Maybe the best case I have seen for this model.  The three glasses are period and may be original, including the center image, as it is protected on the back by a cardboard instruction label.  This galloping horse is found on other examples. Both metal dials have been repainted and have yellowed, although they may have been done in ivory.  The time hands are period and correct, the calendar hand is make-do and not correct.  Calendar hands are available at parts supply stores such as TimeSavers. As noted, there is a good card label with instructions on the back of the door and a good Plymouth Hollow label inside on the backwall. The movement is running and striking on the wire gong, driven by two large iron weights, and the calendars are advancing properly. The last example of this model that AAC sold was in 2021 for $800.  $500-$800.
