E. Ingraham & Co. “Empire Mosaic”, ca. 1881. A 21.5-inch
mahogany case with candy stripes on the side columns and the round ornaments on the crest, with gilded trim on the crescents. The finish is old with a light patina. Ingraham made this clock with and without the mosaic columns; there are no sales for
either form on LiveAuctioneers, and one sale on the Antique Clocks Identification and Price Guide long ago for a mosaic version. The door glass is original, the dial is old, yellowed paper and the hands are period and correct. The 8-day, time-and-strike
movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong. There is a single barrel pendulum and a large black label with gold
lettering on the backwall. This clock is shown on page 261 of Ly, Ingraham Clocks & Watches; the only shortcoming I see
is a missing wooden apron that should be below the dial, but this apron was also missing in the single sale record at R.O. Schmitt
in 2005. They suggested that the apron was dropped to allow a push-button door latch to be installed, which is also found here. A very rare example. $250–$500.
