Birge & Fuller double-steeple with wagon
spring movement, 1844-1848. A refinished 27-inch case veneered in mahogany with two well done repairs on the front. There are cone finials and it sits on ball feet; the dial glass is period/original, the center and lower glasses are modern with excellent
Fenn-style tablets. The contoured dial has been repainted, the hands are original/proper. The eight-day brass
time-and-strike movement is clean, signed, and runs for a while before stopping, striking on a wire gong and powered by a wagon spring
invented by Joseph Ives. There is an old pendulum bob and a tattered label behind the wagon spring. The average
of four sales of this model on AAC is $875. $500–$1200.
