Aaron Willard Massachusetts shelf clock REPRODUCTION,ca. 1960.  Aaron Willard reproduction shelf, or “half clocks” are not uncommon.  This represents his earliest style of this clock, with a kidney-shaped dial in a solid wood case.  Here the 36.5-inch case is a reproduction based on plans from the Metropolitan Museum of New York, published in 1954.  In this example the wood is tiger maple.  It was made by Kenyon Reece of Lynn, IN, a well-known antiques dealer and collector in the 1960’s.  The movement and dial appear to be period, with a faint signature of Aaron Willard, Boston, at the bottom of the dial.  The paint is flaking in places but is clean, with losses to the numbering (and signature).  The hands are likely original.  The 8-day, weight-driven, time-only brass movement is running, driven by a substitute 7 lb lead weight.  There is no label or signature on the case, but we know who made it because the consignor is his grandson.  A beautiful example.  $1000–$2000.
