Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Column”, ca. 1863.  Seth Thomas made this venerable model from 1863 to as late as 1909 in several styles and sizes. This one is the larger version at 25 inches tall; an identical 19-inch model was also made, and they all used a 30-hour weight-driven movement.  Seth Thomas, still selling 30-hour weight-driven clocks at the turn of the century; they stuck with what worked. The rosewood veneer is clean with just two small veneer segments missing on the back sides of the top board.  The half-columns have gilded caps and are grain-painted, I believe.  Both glasses are period/original, with a well-retained and colorful tablet; I think the blue background has been retouched.  The contoured metal dial is clean and may have been relined; the hands are period and correct.  The 30-hour weight-driven, time-and-strike movement is signed Seth Thomas Plymouth Hollow, matching the label.  It is running and striking on the wire gong, driven by two period weights. $100–$200.
